Blessed Giovanni Liccio is the patron saint of the municipality of Caccamo, in Sicily. Country of birth of my mother and my uncle. The last Sunday and Monday of May is celebrated in his honor. The celebrations begin with the solemn Octave celebrated in the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli. A large number of faithful gather in the square in front of the church awaiting its exit to join the solemn procession where, out of devotion, most of the devotees wear the same clothes as the Blessed, those of the Dominican Order. The silver urn dates back to the nineteenth century. Inside, the mortal remains of the Blessed are placed in their natural location in special display cases.
The exit of the Blessed takes place in a riot of devotion, joy and veneration, all the faithful greet the holy casket with emotion, invoking the help of Blessed John or simply thanking him for having received a special grace. In 1924 a group of Caccamesi resident in the United States in Chicago set up the “Società Beato Giovanni Liccio” to honor the patron saint of their hometown.
