I baarioti

bagheria%20nella%20cartina%20sicula_edit

The baariota is the inhabitant of Bagheria, a city a few kilometers from Palermo, in Sicily. It gave birth to artists such as the painter Guttuso, the photographer Scianna and the Oscar-winning director Tornatore. A small diatribe from the end of the 19th century used to make a difference between "baariota" and "bagherese" ... the first concerned mainly those who did not want to have political and administrative relations with Palermo, who therefore sought total independence. Today "baariota" can be remembered as a synonym for "arrogance" precisely for not wanting to be subjected to certain rules.
